It emerged because of French King Louis XV’s (1710-1774) opposition to the red tape of the royal court art. The word Rococo has its root in the French words of rocaille and coquilles, i.e., an interior decoration made of shells and pebbles.
Emphasizing comfort and luxury, Rococo broke through the conventional red tape. It highlights gorgeous curves and light colors, creating a sweet, lively, exquisite and gorgeous atmosphere that reflects the so-called "Louis XV Style" vogue.
