Xitou used to be a mountainous village at the source of Beishi River. In 1970, The Experimental Forest of the College of Bio-Resources and Agriculture, National Taiwan University, founded an education area in Xitou. In 1993, Le Midi Hotel was established and received its name because Xitou is similar to southern France in terms of scenery and climate. Unfortunately, in the 2000s, the Hotel was struck by a typhoon and the 1999 Jiji earthquake, suffering a tremendous amount of damage.
Textile tycoon Li-Yu Lee said when he first saw Le Midi Hotel, “the interior and exterior were significantly destroyed and it was literally in a state of desolation.” However, when he climbed up to the top floor and saw the layers of bamboo forest, towering green mountains, and ethereal mist, he was extremely touched. Thus, he decided to make every effort to restore the Hotel.
